Everything You Need to Know About Season Tickets

Season tickets are a great way to save money for people who make the same journey regularly. Not only are they cheaper per journey than daily tickets, you also get unlimited travel on your route.

You probably know there are three types: weekly, monthly, and annual season tickets, but do you know which one is the best option for you? Well we’re here to help.

The Weekly

With this ticket, you’ll get 7 days of unlimited travel on your route. Depending on where you’re travelling to and from, you can be better off buying a weekly season ticket if you intend to travel at least 3 times in a given week at peak times.

The Monthly

If you anticipate travelling regularly on the same route for more than 3 weeks in a month, then a monthly season ticket is a great way to save up to the equivalent of a week’s travel. Like a weekly, you’ll be able to travel as much as you like and at any time of day.

If you use contactless, you’ll probably know that your fare is automatically capped at the equivalent of a weekly. Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as a monthly cap, so if you travel regularly in a month, you could find yourself paying more than you need to with contactless or pay-as-you-go.

The Annual

By now you’ve probably spotted the pattern, so you won’t be surprised that the annual ticket season is a great option for commuters who regularly make the same journey throughout the year.  Provided you don’t anticipate a break from commuting for more than 1.5 months, an annual season ticket is the most cost-effective choice for most journeys.

For commuters living in the South East of the UK, the annual season ticket has another great advantage – the Annual Gold Card. This little yellow card gifts you all sorts of discounts on rail travel for you and those you travel with. You can read about all the benefits here.

You can get the savings of an annual and the flexibility of monthly tickets here, or if you'd prefer to pay for the annual upfront, you can order your ticket here. Whichever you choose, you can buy safely online and we'll deliver your ticket contact-free to your door.
